Friday Haul: Frugal Fashionista Edition

I’ve been slowly but surely expanding my comfort zone when it comes to buying second hand. Remember when I bought my first Goodwill shoes? That was a pretty big moment for me. I’ve purchased some great clothes from Goodwill since then, but I find that I get MUCH better deals at garage sales.

I showed you my major jeans score for my son (and I’ve found even MORE since that post). I’ll never buy brand new jeans for my boys again. After all, I can always patch them up with my no-sew method if they need it.

I know it has been a while since I showed you any of my garage sale scores (except the awesome bed, which is now red, BTW). I just haven’t found a whole lot worth mentioning. One item here, one item there. Not enough to do a whole post about, right?

Well, I’ve been buying clothing for myself lately. This is a sort of “wrap-up” post for ya.

This is the shirt that started it all. Jen of Balancing Beauty and Bedlam says to look for clothing with fun details, so as soon as I saw this shirt with the weird sleeves I tried it on (over my t-shirt) and decided that the $1 was worth the risk. Turns out, it looks really cute on me. Perfect for fall.

I found these sweaters last weekend. First, though, notice the robins egg blue afghan in the background. That was the item I forgot to tell you about that time when I found the Lucky jeans. It was covered in cat hair so the gal gave it to me for 25¢. I washed it and all the hair came off. It looks so pretty draped over the chair in the living room!

I like the cowl neck on the white sweater. It needs a white t-shirt underneath (no problem), and it will look all classy (and maybe old lady??) with black pants. It was $1, so I decided to risk it!

The green sweater has lots of fun details. Should look cute with a brown t-shirt and jeans! $1.

Then, yesterday I found these shirts:

There is that white t-shirt. It has pit stains, so I know I paid too much. However, I can wear it under short sleeve t-shirts all winter long, so I’m not concerned. About 75¢.

The green shirt may be a total “bust” because I look like a hoochy-mama in it. I’m going to wash it (smells like smoke) and try it with a tank underneath. About 75¢.

I LOVE the orange shirt. LOVE. It is a small, so I almost put it down, but I decided to try it on over my t-shirt and it totally works! Not tight! Wahoo! Plus, it’s Calvin Klein (and you know how much brand names mean to me . . . lol!). It was only 25¢.

The gray shirt has some fun details on the sleeves, and I like that the neckline kinda droops in front. It looked decent on me (if a little short), but I’m going to try it again after I wash it and put a black tank underneath. About 75¢.

Notice the details:

I found this sweater today, too. It is more brick red than the photo shows, and the sleeves are 3/4 length. Looks cute on me! Only 25¢!

One of the things Jen has mentioned is that I need to disregard clothing sizes. All of these clothes range from small to XL, but they all fit me! Kinda funny!

I haven’t scored a lot for myself but Grace has been making a haul with her birthday money! She’s a serious garage sale shopper, in fact she played “garage sale” with her brother in the living room today by laying out toys for him to buy from her.

You found some cute stuff, I’ve been a second hand clothing shopper for a long time. I’ve always loved Goodwill but they’re a lot pricier then they used to be. Value Village is a little better in Salem as long as you don’t go on Wednesday, the only day they don’t have a color special. I used to pick up maternity clothes there for super cheap and make good money selling them on Ebay. You may not be able to tell but at least half of my kids’ wardrobe I bought used. I have a variety of sources, most of which are online because Salem shopping is terrible.

I once found a cashmere turtleneck sweater at a garage sale for $.25 which is probably one of my best buys for myself from a garage sale. I found a purple zip up sweatshirt this spring that I’ve been wearing a ton that cost me $1.

Super cute sweaters! I went Goodwill shopping today too. Got some pretty fun “detail” shirts and 2 pairs of BRAND NEW shoes for my son. He grows out or wears out shoes so fast lately, so the $3 was thrilling to me. Thanks for the inspirations :)
