My favorite digital die cut machine is the Silhouette Cameo. I LOVE and adore it. So much fun. It comes with a pretty terrific software called Silhouette Studio. The cool thing is that it is really easy to use the software, especially if you consult some YouTube videos as you learn.
Some things to note about the Silhouette Studio Software:
- You CAN open DXF files directly in the software that comes with your Silhouette. The process is pretty much the same as in the videos I’ll share here, except that it is a good idea to immediately group ALL of the lines so you can move the file around on your screen. Also, you don’t have to “find” the cut lines with DXF files. The caveat is that sometimes they come in at a different size than they were designed to be. Sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller. Still proportionate, though!
- You can purchase the Designer Edition (DE) of the Silhouette Studio software which has extra features, plus it allows you to open up SVG files very easily. You STILL can’t sell .studio files, though.
I put together this little tutorial to show you how I open SVG files in the DE.
That was my FIRST TIME recording and successfully uploading a video tutorial. It was so easy and so fun! I could get into this!
How to open SVG files in the Silhouette Studio software!
In this second video, I show you how I add digital paper to my project pieces, how to scale that paper (make it bigger or smaller) and how to trace png files to be cut on my Silhouette Cameo. Enjoy!
