When Layla helped me out with the virtual redesign of my family room, we couldn’t make the computer desk work in the room. Yeah, it was sort of weird to have it in there, but it is also pretty critical that I be able to work while supervising my kids. So, I had to figure out where I was going to put my {precious} monster of a computer. We thought that maybe we could put it on the wall under the mirror, but once I put it there, we both thought it would be strange to have my back to the room. It just didn’t work. I tried putting the computer desk in my bedroom, but the blue screen was a bit of a mood-killer, if you know what I’m sayin’ . . . and I think you do.
Ironically, I ended up putting my computer RIGHT BACK where I had originally planned to have a little workstation waaayyy back when we designed our house. In the plans, there was a little closet in the hallway next to the dining area, so I had the builder put a desktop in there and we put some outlets and a phone jack in there, too. Since then, this little spot has been used as a place to store my scrapping supplies (uh, which would seriously not work out these days, since I have so much), a wrapping paper station, and a craft area for Grant. It has been organized, junked up again and reorganized more times than I care to count.
This was the state of the closet this afternoon:
If you look closely (please, don’t), you will see that it IS kinda organized. I mean, the things in there are not just tossed in, but there is a place for them. Kinda. But, this is not exactly something you want your friends to see when they come over, nor is it the source of creative inspiration. (And, yes, that is the $1 garage sale chair.)
I was sitting here this afternoon, looking at my junky area, thinking about how uninspired I am, and then I figured that I might as well do something about it. I mean, I already had all kinds of burlap leftover from my math faux pas, even after covering every single bulletin board in the house (and then some). Maybe I could do something with it. So, I pulled it out, ironed it, folded it in half (2 panels), measured it and cut. I had JUST enough to stretch from the ceiling to the bottom of the first shelf. Nice.
I “hemmed” each panel with the glue gun, then covered the hem with some grosgrain ribbon. Love my glue gun.
I needed the top to be a little stronger (so it wouldn’t unravel when my kids inevitably pulled on it), so I folded it over, ironed in a seam, then folded the edge under again and glued it. I don’t know what that is called, but it seems like it should be called a double seam. I dunno.
I used my staple gun to attach the reinforced seam to the ceiling. I marked the ceiling, first, though, just so I wouldn’t be all over the place with my stapling. As it was, I was still all over the place. Whatever.
But, one thing I have learned is that “It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful,” right? Yeah. Right. So, I’m very pleased with myself this afternoon. I actually started and finished a project, and brought a little more peace and order to my room. Okay, so I just covered up the mess, but STILL. You love it, don’t you. My digital workstation.
Maybe I’ll show you my actual scrapping ROOM sometime. It’s a LOT nicer than this. Still not perfect, but . . . beautiful!

Great job & so clever! What a great idea for covering up the “stuff”. By the way, the sewing term for folding up a raw hem, then folding it up agin is clean finishing. Oh yeah, my “sewing stuff” is way bigger than my scrapbooking stuff. And I have a lot of scrapbooking stuff
