It’s a mad dash to get that Vienna album done, but I just had to take a break to get a new product in the shop and bring you another tutorial. My newest release is the 4×6 Prints Box, designed to hold 4×6 photos when printed on letter sized paper on the borderless printing setting. It’s a fairly simple box with SO many possibilities! I can see it holding little cards or small gifts. Maybe a mini album or two!

Let’s get started on that tutorial!

First, let me direct you to some pretty good tutorials found at The Hybrid Chick:

Where to Start – offers suggestions for basic materials to get you started with hybrid.

Using Templates – guides you through the process of using my templates from downloading to adding digital paper, and preparing to print.

Borderless Printing – shows you how to find your borderless printing option on your printer . . . or at least get you headed in the right direction.

Now, print your project! Of course, you can use digital paper or simply print the lines only version on some of the patterned paper or cardstock in your stash.

Here’s mine. I’m using a new brand of paper since my local camera store ran out of my favorite stuff. I actually really like it, but that could be because I printed this project on the Premium Photo Paper setting. In any case, this time I am using Ilford Smooth Heavyweight Matte Paper. It is more expensive than my Epson stuff, but I was desperate, and it really is a little heavier.

Sorry it’s a tad bit blurry! You get the picture, though. I ended up combining two kits by Kelley Mickus for this project: Click and Our Story. So pretty!

Next, score on the lines. Of course, I turned my lines a shade that would blend into my paper using the color selector dropper thingy (so technical). I think it was a little bit brown, kinda. (This is, obviously, the back of my project. Just wanted to prove that I scored those lines.)

Then, I snipped on the solid lines. The only solid lines on this project are the 1 inch lines along the side (as shown).

Now, fold on all of the scored lines.fold

Add adhesive to all of the little tabs.adhesive

Assemble the bottom by adhering 4 small tabs to the inside of the box. Then, fold the top backwards so that it opens up and adhere the final two tabs to the inside of the top of the box.

Test the box to make sure your 4×6 prints fit inside. Yep. They fit! Please remember that I printed this project out on my borderless printer! If you have any doubt about how your printer will handle this template (or whether or not you even HAVE a borderless printing option), print a test run on some plain copy paper, first. I don’t want you to come after me if your prints don’t fit! I promise that it is designed to fit WITHOUT trimming your prints!

Here’s my box! I’m gonna put my Vienna album in it. Maybe just prints for now. We’ll see how much I get done before Friday night!

Assemble the wrapping band by cutting it out, then scoring along the scoring lines. Then, just wrap it around your box and adhere with some adhesive! Don’t pull it too tight, though. The band is designed to slide on and off.

I decorated my band before adding it to the box. I did NOT poke the brad through the band, but glued it instead so that the band would slide without scratching.

Here is my completed project!

[...] I decided that I wanted to use a magnetic closure by Basic Grey on this pencil box, but you could also use velcro, a ribbon, or a wrapping band (like I did on the 4×6 prints box). [...]
