The Friday Haul (Tuesday Morning Edition)
I know it has been a LONG time since I have posted a garage sale “Friday Haul” post. I still go garage sale-ing most Fridays, but most of my purchases are not really blog post worthy.
However, this one was an exception!!
The frame was $1. I don’t know what I will do with it, but I couldn’t pass it up. I might end up making a new chalkboard, since I gave my other one to a friend. Or, I might make a message board like the one in Cole’s room. OR, I might just paint it and stack it on a mantle behind a print. We’ll see. I’m not in a hurry.
The United States floor puzzle was 25¢. I like to teach my kids party tricks like shark identification at the age of 2 or amazing mental math tricks to amuse my friends. This summer, I’d like to teach them state identification, placement and capitols. Eh? Impressed? We’ll see if it happens. By the way, it is missing one piece, but it is a Melissa and Doug puzzle, and I was told that I could call the 800 number and try to get a replacement. I might do that.
The A is for America book was 10¢. I figured it would go nicely with my state identification goal.
The Designed to Sell book was free.
The clock (broken) was 50¢. Or, maybe it was 25¢. In any case, my plan is to pull out the clockworks, paint it a fun, funky color, stick a round mirror on the front and hang it up. Nice!
The lamp shade was a total dud purchase. I thought I’d be able to use it on a lamp that I already own, even though the “harp” part was clipped out of it. Turns out I can’t use it. So, 50¢ down the drain. Oh, well! I’m not gonna cry!
AND, the most amazing purchase ever . . . wait for it . . . it’s good . . .
The ten HP 02 Vivera ink cartridges cost me $5, TOTAL! This is the kind of ink my printer takes. I usually buy them direct from HP for $9.95 per colored cartridge and $19.95 for black. Rite Aid carries the colored for $15, and I’ve had to buy one or two there when I was desperate. So, you are looking at $110 worth of printer ink purchased for only $5!! The gal had it sitting on an old printer, and I asked her, “How much for just the ink?” Booyah! I seriously don’t think the lady had any clue about what she had there. I’m still high on that purchase.
Other purchases this summer include: a new wall shelf for $3, a pair of Old Navy jeans for Grant (perfect condition) for $1, a Power Rangers costume for Cole with built in muscles (very cool) for $1, a couple of books and some odds and ends. It hasn’t been a HUGE garage sale season so far (actually, the summer just started about 5 days ago here in Oregon), but it has been fun!!
Have you found any awesome garage sale deals lately?? Tell me about them!!

I LOVE garage sales
It is my weekly trip with my parents for fun and making sure I spend time with them- two birds… A couple of weeks ago- Lucky Brand jeans- one pair for my son and one pair for myself $1 each, 5 gallons of nice brown exterior paint free! Over the years I have picked up numerous gallons of paint and have used a lot! Exterior can be used indoors and a couple/few of similar colors (must be all latex) can be mixed together in a big bucket and paint a whole room. A couple of days ago I picked up a super cute navy leather slouch purse $.25, an under the counter fridge $20, silk dress $5, Pampered Chef bar pans $5 each plus a small one for $2, a good tennis racket $1, just to name a few… Each week I usually get some great stuff! Some weeks are definitely better/worse than others. I usually have a mental list of stuff I am looking for too- Kids are moving out soon so they need all the basics and it is silly to purchase all the stuff new. I have a list of all the ink cartridge numbers I use, a list of all the books by my fav authors I have already read and just pick up the stuff that I know I will eventually use… replacement toilet works, etc. Whenever I need to do repairs I can just go out to my shelf in the garage and grab what I need to fix it and know I have saved myself time and money. My husband used to mock me but now that we have had kids grow up and use most of the clothes, done a few remodels and lots of repairs over the years, he no longer does and brags to his friends
Gotta love that! I even have my kids really valuing how much they can save instead of new… they like the challenge and adventure of it as well!
