Mason Jar Blender Smoothies!
I am so thrilled right now! I was just reading through my blogs when I saw that Tip Junkie had mentioned a blog where the gal makes blended drinks in a Mason Jar. Say, what?? Did you know that your blender blade can probably fit on a regular mouth canning jar?
I tested it. It totally works on my cheapo Walmart Osterizer.
In a pint jar, I combined two cubes of frozen strawberries (I bought a 30lb bucket from a local Rotary Club. I froze some in ice cube trays.), a handful of mango cubes (Remember when mangoes were 2/$1? Remember that rash reaction I got by touching the skin of mangoes? Fun times.), 1 teaspoon of chia seeds, 2 tsp. sugar and whole milk. I put the rubber gasket thingy on the jar, then the blade, then the black lid thingy.
I put the whole contraption onto the blender base and hit blend! IT TOTALLY WORKED. And, the blending of the small smoothie was super fast, too!
This is going to change my smoothie making WORLD. Mostly because I always have the best of intentions of making smoothies for my family, but it rarely comes to pass because of the huge mess. I buy fruit when it is in season, chop and freeze it in small smoothie making portions (as shown above), then I just keep it in my freezer. I’m too lazy to actually MAKE the smoothies. Oh, the blending of the smoothies (my blender is not top of the line by any means!). Oh, the pouring of the smoothie mix into small cups, trying to get the portions just right so that all young boys will think it is fair. Oh, the hassle of cleaning the glass blender thingy and all of those little cups!! Oh, but what if one person doesn’t want blueberries in their raspberry and blueberry smoothie? It’s smoothie making torture, I tell you!
THIS is my solution to the great problems plaguing my smoothie making. Individualized smoothies served up in a mason jar glass! LOVE this.
PS - I know that at least one of you is going to ask: “What are chia seeds?” Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia! Yes. Chia Pet hair. Same thing. Apparently they are supposed to be good for you. Plus, they are supposed to make you feel full. I’m testing the theory. So far, they just make me feel a bit like a granola mama, so I’m going with it.

Shut up! I say that in the most “light bulb” fantastic way of course. I so have to try this.

One of my friends also uses this method to make just enough salsa for one meal at a time. It works great!

Dude…that is so smart!! I’ve been thinking about trying the chia seeds. My neighbor swears by them. Where did you get them and let me know after a month what you think.

Sarah, I got them from my Azure Standard co-op. I’ll let you know, but I seriously doubt that I will be consistent!!

Why haven’t I ever thought of that? Thanks so much! I just tried it, and the mason jar fits my 30 year old Oster Kitchen Center blender base! Yay! Can’t wait to make some smoothies and not have so many dishes to wash.

I tried it, and the black thing didn’t fit right… SO SAD! Makes me almost want to buy a cheap walmart one like you have, JUST so I can make smoothies and stuff like that. I’d use my blender so much more!
Kelleigh, did the black thing on yours fit absolutely tight on a mason jar?

Yep! Mine fits just the same as a canning lid would. Nice and tight. I’ve been making SO many smoothies! I’m so sorry it didn’t work for you! I wish I hadn’t thrown out my last cheap blender!! It would have been perfect for this!

Hmmm, I may have to look at those cheap walmart Osterizers lol! I love my blender, but I definitely would use it so much more if I could use mason jars! They are way easier to clean…
