I am so excited about this adorable, unique box! The Clover Box Template Set is so perfect for wedding favors or baby shower favors. The larger size is great for small gifts, or even as a cupcake box! AND, it is a cinch to put together. Let me show you how!
Before I get started, let me direct you to some pretty good tutorials (if I do say so myself!) found at The Hybrid Chick:
Where to Start – offers suggestions for basic materials to get you started with hybrid.
Using Templates – guides you through the process of using my templates from downloading to adding digital paper, and preparing to print.
Borderless Printing – shows you how to find your borderless printing option on your printer . . . or at least gets you headed in the right direction.
Now, print your project! Of course, you can use digital paper or simply print the lines only version on some of the patterned paper or cardstock in your stash.
For this project, I chose the Up Close digital kit by Karen Lewis (and you can buy just the papers, too!) and printed my project onto Red River Polar Matte Double-Sided Photo Paper
. You’ll notice that I changed the color of the lines on the template to blend in better with the digital papers I chose. My goal was that they would not be seen at all once my project was put together. I also added a few extra strips of paper so that I could cut them out and make a card to match my project.
I also printed on the back of the paper! To do this, I simply flipped the paper over and printed the entire digital paper on there without using a clipping mask or anything. Easy.
You can use digital paper (and my templates!!) even if you don’t have Photoshop!! Digital paper comes in jpg format, so you would just open it up and print it out (File>Print). You can print it right from your “Preview” pane (on a Mac . . . I don’t know about a PC, but I would imagine it is just as easy.) Then, to add my template, flip your paper over and print the template (pdf version) right onto the white side of your paper. That’s it! If you wanna get fancy, print another patterned paper onto the white/lines side. Want to practice? The Hybrid Chick has a pretty set of papers by Sugarplum Paperie that you can try out for free! Go download it!!
Okay, so at this point, you would score your lines using a bone folder, a dull dinner knife, a pizza cutter, the scoring blade on your paper cutter, whatever. I like to do this before I cut out the template so that I have better control.
Now, cut out the template. I use my craft knife (glorified Xacto knife) for this, because I find it to be a lot faster around curves than scissors. With a little practice, you might discover that, too!
And, assemble the lid. I didn’t take pictures of this process, but if you have cut on the solid lines and scored on the dashed lines, then it should be kind of self-explanatory. Hopefully. In any case, this is what it looks like when it is put together. Just a basic box top.
To assemble the bottom, simply start folding on the scored lines. You will fold the large “petals” to the inside, and then pinch the smaller petals so they also fold in. Your box bottom should look like this:
And, that is it! Put the lid on top and decorate the box to your heart’s content. Try your hardest to give it away. I’m totally hoarding mine, though. It is just so cute!!
This sample is the smaller version of the box, which prints out on a single sheet of 8.5×11 paper. I also created a larger version which is printed out on two sheets of 8.5×11 paper; one for the lid and one for the bottom.
Can’t you just picture this at a table setting at a wedding reception? I think it makes the most perfect little wedding favor box!! Makes me want to get married all over again!
