Saving at Safeway and Rite Aid!

Hi everyone! I know it has been a LONG time since I have posted any grocery shopping trips. My excuses: I’ve been canning pears and the envelope ran out of money. I had to just STOP shopping until it could be refilled again. Self-discipline is so good for me!

However, since we get paid on the 15th (or some time around there), I did get to take advantage of the awesome toilet paper deal at Safeway last week. If you’ve been reading your coupon blogs, you know what I’m talking about. If not . . . I purchased 8 packs of Cottonelle (12 roll) for $1.98 per pack. Booyah! Oh, and, of course, I picked up my FREE Mentos gum. Aw, yeah. I SO want to show you pictures!! However, that would just confuse everyone since those deals are now over. (Well, okay, the TP deal is still good, but you would pay $2.98 a pack instead. Still good.)

The reason my grocery envelope ran out so quickly last week was because of the Rite Aid deals. Man, it’s easy to go hog wild in Rite Aid and drop ALL my cash. Not a good thing. See, the last 2 weeks, there have been a LOT of “Free-after-rebate” deals on cold medicine. Lots of my friends stock up on cold medicine at this time. However, for me, it’s still cash out of the envelope. I can’t afford to drop $30 on medicine and then wait for my rebate check to come in the mail when I only had $50 in the grocery envelope to start with. Right?

However, I do absolutely LOVE to shop Rite Aid lately!! The new +UP rewards are the COOLEST thing. Oh, my! On Monday I went into town (aka: Salem) to try to find a new shirt for myself (unsuccessful, btw) and I popped into Rite Aid to do a deal. Check it:

On my first trip, I purchased the stuff on the right. I just followed the scenarios, and paid with a $2 +UP reward and 95¢ OOP and I earned a bunch of +UP rewards!

My second trip was in Dallas, where I picked up the 6 bags of candy, gum and DayQuil. I paid with $8 in +UP rewards and $3.98 OOP, and earned another $8 in +UP rewards! LOVE Rite Aid!!

This morning, Cole and I had some time to kill before school, so I popped into Safeway to pick up an ad and “purchase” some pasta. Frugal Living NW reported that there were $1/1 MC tearpads hanging on the shelf and the pasta was priced at $1.50 (so free after the doubler in Oregon and SW Washington). I did two transactions and picked up 8 boxes for FREE. Side note: When I went this morning, there were a TON of coupons. 4 THICK stacks. There weren’t many boxes on the shelf (they just don’t stock a whole lot of these), but there were still about 20 boxes or so. I dropped off Cole, went for a run, showered and all that, then went back to Safeway to pick up the rest of my loot and the coupons were GONE. Sure, the boxes were gone (I didn’t expect them to last), but someone or a hoard of people grabbed ALL of the coupons. Crazy. Of course, I can’t really complain, because I did get my free boxes and I have a ton more in my pantry. I’m just sad for my friends who work during the day and can’t get to the store to grab their coupons because someone got greedy. Argh.

Anyway, my score doesn’t look too exciting:

Like I said, two transactions this morning with $0 Out of Pocket.

Then, two transactions later this morning to take advantage of the doublers and get overage on the Fage yogurt.

The Highlights:

  • Free pasta.
  • Instant Quaker Oatmeal 2/$5 - Used (2) $2/1 Facebook MC and (2) $1/1 MC that I printed a while ago + doubler. Two for FREE and two for $1. (Link to coupon at Krazy Coupon Lady)
  • Fage Greek Yogurt $1.25 each - Used (3) $1/1 Facebook MC + doubler. Made 75¢. (Links to these at Frugal Living NW)
  • Cheese is $3.99 this week.
  • Butter on sale with in-ad coupon for $2.49 (not a stock up price)
  • 18 Eggs on sale with in-ad coupon for $1.99

Any other great deals you see? I did the Jimmy Dean thing last week, and I DON’T need more fruit snacks (even if they are free!). What else am I missing?

I picked up the cheap fruit snacks, eggs, yogurt (if you’re on the Mountain High Yogurt email list they email out a $.50/1 pdf coupon every month and I always print a lot!), and Simply Orange Juice (there’s a $1/1 Facebook coupon to go with the in ad coupon). I forgot about the free pasta but have plenty from the last free round. The Glade deal doesn’t work, it’s a $3/3 manufacturer coupon NOT a store coupon.

Just got back from Safeway and noticed that, like you said, the pasta coupons are gone. Kind of disappointed- Why do people have to hoard and ruin it for the rest of us?? Thanks for the post! I’ll have to go get the Yogurt!

OH I am so bummed about the Nivea coupon in our inserts - I didn’t get any!! Did you purchase yours off ebay or did you happen to get them in your Salem paper? (I’m in the Clackamas area).

We got them in the Statesman Journal! My husband actually uses body wash, so and he was down to his last bottle of the free Old Spice I picked up for him a while back, so this was perfect timing! Smells yummy!

You should buys some on ebay, if you like the stuff. I hear that it is free at Walmart (although my Walmart never matches up with posted deals!).

That is so annoying that someone has to grab THAT many coupons. What could you possibly do with all those coupons? I’m glad you got a few good deals this week. :)
