Safeway score! (If you are into coupons, this is kinda cool.)

I went to Safeway today, since I had about 30 minutes left to kill before picking my son up from Preschool. This is NOT enough time for me. Good grief! I tried to do a few really cool deals, but I mucked things up a bit, therefore some of my coupons that were loaded onto my card didn’t trigger, and I accidentally grabbed higher priced Kleenex (two at $1.99 each, when I could have grabbed the $1.50 boxes {argh}). SO, I spent more than I wanted to, but I think you can agree with me that I did pretty good anyway. A few of these things were on sale, but not spectacularly on sale. I just needed bread ($1.79), butter ($2.49), chicken breasts ($1.99 a pound=$6.49), tortillas ($1.99), onion (.69 a pound) and apples (.79 a pound).

groceries 10-6

Some highlights - 6 packs of Dentyne for a grand total of .20¢. How? They are regularly $1.39 each, but they are BOGO right now. I had 3 coupons that were also BOGO (that I picked up from a blinkie in the candy isle last week), but only up to $1.29 each. SO, I used all 3 coupons, and the cashier had to adjust the price down to take off $1.29. However, she just scanned one of the full price gums and just decided to leave it that way because she was too tired to go back and adjust. Works for me! So, 20¢ for 6 packs of gum.

2 cartons of juice for a grand total of $1. The Welches is on sale for 2/$4. I had 2 coupons for .75¢ off 1 carton, which could be doubled (up to .50¢). SO, I ended up paying a total of $1.00 for the two cartons of juice.

A Catalina is a coupon that prints out when you buy a certain number of things or a certain combination of things. You get it after you’ve paid, as your cashier hands you a receipt. Well, there are a couple of Catalina deals that I took advantage of here:

Buy 3 boxes of Kleenex, get a $3 Catalina to spend on your next visit. Some Kleenex is on sale right now for .99¢ (the two light colored boxes). However, I could only find 2 of them, so I MEANT to grab 2 more that are on sale for $1.50, but I messed up and grabbed the $1.99 boxes. SO, I ended up with approx $6 worth of Kleenex, used a coupon for $1.00 off 4, plus the in-ad Safeway coupon for $2 off 4. My grand total was $3.00 for the Kleenex (and it would have been $2 if I’d been smarter!). I received a $3 Catalina!! So, the Kleenex essentially was free (although it could have been a moneymaker. Argh.)

Another Catalina deal. Buy 3 Pillsbury refrigerated biscuits/rolls, etc, get $2 back. Buy 4, get $2.50 back. Buy 5 or more, get $3 back. I wanted to see how much this would actually cost me out of pocket, so I did this deal in a separate transaction. I loaded up on ecoupons (go to Cellfire and Shortcuts), and grabbed my internet printables. I bought 3 Crescent Rolls and 1 Crescent Rounds (on accident. ARGH.). My total was $11.56 before coupons. I swiped my card, then handed her my coupons, and the $3 Catalina from the Kleenex deal. My total for the 4 was $1.96, PLUS it spit out a $2.50 Catalina to use on my next order.

Perhaps I’ll go in on Friday and grab a baby loaf of Tillamook cheese (on sale for 72 hours for $3.99), pay with my Catalina, and spend $1.49!

It just KILLS me that as I look at my receipt that I forgot to use the in-ad coupon for the Quilted Northern (save $1). ARGH. Still, $25 (to the penny!), for all this is not bad.

On a different note, apparently I shocked you speechless yesterday by posting that photo of my desk. Only ONE comment? (Thank you Melissa!) Either you didn’t like my tutorial, or you are ashamed of my messy room. I’ll clean it today. Or maybe tomorrow. Will you leave me a comment on my tutorial if I clean my room? Pretty please?

Ugh! I just spent $170 at a Korean grocery store today. I’m expecting few guests to stay with us this weenkend and as I don’t have time to cook, I bought a lot of prepared stuff. But, still, I can’t keep my grocery bill lower than $100 a week. And my kids barely eat anything!
I normally don’t go to Safeway as I feel their price is higher than other places. But, I need to learn from you, and look for the coupons. Thank you for sharing. More money saved on grocery, more scrapbook supplies for me!

Excellent haul, Kelleigh! You sure are enjoying your couponing and I am so happy for you about that. Maybe, someday, I might possibly dip my toe into the couponing adventure, but I don’t think I’d be as good as you are in scoring the deals.

You are having fun, and it shows. What a great feeling to help contribute to the family in this way. Keep up the great work!

Great job with the coupons! I checked out some of the sites you’ve mentioned and need to load up my club cards. Super funny about yesterday’s post…I’m sure people weren’t scared of your desk…maybe just blinded by the beauty of your jewerly box! I’m sure we all have desks or closets or rooms like that (at least I do!).
