Need Decorating Advice

I have another design dilemma for you today. Oh, and no, I have not gotten around to painting. I’m sure it will happen sometime in 2011, though.

Anyway, today I was flipping through a Pottery Barn catalog, when this jumped out at me.

It’s the Leena Media Console and is priced at a hefty $599.00. What I like about it is the curves and lines and the space underneath that keeps it feeling light.

I’ve been looking at media consoles a lot lately. We are currently using a sofa table that I purchased at a vintage furniture store.

Ignore the unsightly cables. I’ll deal with them soon.

Anyway, I like the lines and the height and width quite a bit. I’d love it as my sofa table eventually, but for now it is acting as the much needed media console.

Question for you guys: What if I asked my dear, wonderful husband to create a shelf to run along the bottom to hold all of our media stuff. I checked out the table, and it looks like we (he) would build a 3-sided box; probably bottom and sides only, although I made the back of this photo black so you could see how it might look with the media stuff in there.

My thought is that we would put some tall, woven baskets under the table with labels on them for games, toys and . . . something else. Maybe movies? Or, perhaps 2 baskets with a small ottoman in the middle since we can always use more seating in our family room.

Would you alter an already pretty table to suit your needs (hiding the components and clearing off the top)? What would you do?

Perhaps your dh could create a tight shelf underneath that would hold the DVD player(s)? with a faux pull down drawer front that would hide it when not in use, but could be accessed for the remote controls.

And perhaps the wood rod could be removed to make room for the basket(s) you mentioned.

I like the idea of removing the bottom rod to make room for baskets. If M were to create a box to hold all your TV supplies would you still want to use it as a sofa table later on?

Actually the minute I saw your pic I thought you could totally turn that table into the perfect media console - I say go for it. Use it for what you need right now. Don’t save it for what if.

Try ana-white.com. She has all sorts of tutorials for PB knock-offs that cost next to nothing. Its my go to site since I’m PB craving on a Tar-jay budget.
