Keeping it Real: The Sock Monster Threw Up

7 June 2011 1,394 views 13 Comments

I really can’t blame all of this on the Sock Monster. Sure, he has been known to eat a few single socks leaving orphans in his wake, however that is a rather rare occurrence, considering that I’m only responsible for the laundry of 4 people. I can’t imagine how my sister keeps up with the socks of her 6 children, plus her husband and herself. THIS is why I can’t have more kids, people. The socks. (I like to come up with reasons why I shouldn’t have more kids. It’s all in jest. Kinda.)

I have had this basket filled with socks that are ready to be paired up sitting by my side of the bed for about . . . 3 weeks now. Maybe 4. Whose counting? (I bet my husband is!!)

Yeah, you can see some pairs in there. It’s not like I only have singles. It could be quite satisfying to pair all of them up and empty out the basket. Probably would be. But, for some inexplicable reason, these have been sitting there taunting me for weeks.

Grant keeps complaining about not having any socks. I say, “Can’t you just go to the sock basket and find a pair like the rest of the family does?” Sheesh. Kids these days.

Just keeping it real, folks. Welcome to my life.

{Pinkie up!} I pinkie promise to pair these socks up and empty out the basket this evening before I go to bed.

Are you a real mom? Join the Keeping it Real party and link up! I’d love to see you in real life!

Now, spill. Do any of you have a sock pile in your house that you keep avoiding??

OK! That is hilarious! The Reason why it is so funny to me is that I have the same problem! I was actually going to do a Keep it Real blog post on the very same problem! The sock basket!! Oh, how it taunts me! I am always telling my kids “Go look in the sock basket” when they can’t find socks! Then I get mad because the look thru the sock basket and dump out the sock basket all over my floor then leave it that way!
I’m like can’t you at least put the socks back in the basket when you are done! LOL! Love it Kelleigh. Thanks for joining Keep it Real!

I soooooo knew I loved you! ;) I *just* emptied my sock basket last week. And what didn’t have a mate hit the trash!!! Go Kelleigh! You can do it!

It is quite satisfying to match them up and clean it out. What helped get me in gear was my 7 y/o daughter sitting down to match up the socks one day until she got totally bored with it. LOL. I think that’s going to start becoming one of her chores…she loved doing it

Love to see that I’m not the only one that hates to match socks. :)

TOTALLY! We had a basket of them, but then the basket needed to get used for other things, so they got transferred to a big 2-gallon plastic bag. :) I do try to go through it every couple of weeks or so, and lately the kids never have enough socks, so they look through it almost every morning to try to find SOMETHING that at least looks like it kinda matches. :) I will admit, there are socks in there that haven’t seen a mate for probably a year or so, and I still keep them, thinking somehow the mate will suddenly reappear! lol Probably NOT going to happen… oh, well. Now my 2-year old son is in a leg cast, and I’m supposed to put a big sock over it to keep it clean, so I found a use for all those lonely socks!!

I always have to laugh when I fold a load of whites and ALL the socks have a match - that happens so rarely, it’s usually a joyful occasion!

We have one right next to the dryer! When it starts to overflow, I pay Brooklyn a dollar to match them all together! She loves it and I use this as a teaching moment. She has to put 25% of her hard earned money into her piggy bank and the other 75% she gets to spend as she likes. She usually goes Garage salin’ with me or saves up for the beloved DQ! (We live right next to a DQ so it is always taunting us with its delish treats!)

The sock basket is the bane of my existence!! Yes, I too have one. I used to have everyone safety pin their socks together when they took them off… it worked for a while. Until the pins bent and started leaving rust marks on the socks. Clothes pins like to attempt escaping the washing machine, by letting go of the socks. There has to be a solution besides sucking it up and mating the dumb things up!

The only reason I don’t have a sock pile right now is because it’s summer and the kids and I are all wearing sandals. Ryan buys the exact same brand of socks each time, so there is no matching necessary! But, I have plenty of other ways I’m keeping it “real”. I’ll have to join the blog party sometime.

BTW, one of these days I’ll actually get around to Photoshopping and posting that beautiful photo 3 totally hot women that was taken in Pratt, KS a few weeks ago. ;)

There is an easy solution. They’re called Sock-Locks. A different color for each member of the family. Problem solved.

Happy you, happy husband, happy kids. So worth it.

    Love,
    Grandmom
