I cleaned my floors! Let’s celebrate with a giveaway!

1 December 2009 2,578 views 43 Comments

The Black Diamond company contacted me recently and asked me to clean my hardwood floors. Seriously, they were THAT bad. If you were to stop in you would probably be struck by the gorgeous cherry wood, and immediately start to take off your shoes. And, I would say, “Don’t bother.” Oh, sure I do sweep and vacuum at least 6 days a week, however I have BOYS. Need I say more? Boys = mud, slime, sticky, etc. Boys also = seriously adorable, but that is beside the point.

So, they sent me this awesome, non-toxic, environmentally friendly floor cleaning system!!

kit

I’m such a lucky girl! I love the practical gift. It’s so me!!

Anywho, I put the thing together (which went very quickly) and was thrilled to discover that it is VERY sturdy, yet lightweight! And, the coolest thing is that the cleaning pad velcros on!! It just sticks without me having to wrestle it over the mop head!!

When they first asked me to check out their product, the people of Black Diamond sent me a link to a totally goofy You-Tube video, which just cracks me up. This lady has so much fun cleaning her own floors that she pops over to her neighbor’s house to clean the neighbor’s floors! I won’t be doing that for you (sorry!), but I will admit that it was kinda fun to clean my floors. (Promise that you won’t tell Mitch, okay?) It was very easy, and I can certainly see myself keeping up on the hardwood floor cleaning from now on.

Look. But don’t judge.

yuck

I know. Gross, right? My floors were veeeery dirty, and those little purple scrubbie things did a marvelous job. I won’t pretend that the cleaning system performed miracles, though. I mean, I did have to lean over and scratch at the sticky stuff with my fingernail. However it does live up to its promise to give me streak free shine!! It has been a while since my gorgeous floors were shiny, so I’m excited about that!

I’m also very pleased that the spray is environmentally friendly and kid/pet safe. I don’t have any pets (except fish, much to my son’s chagrin), but I do have two adorable boys who mean the world to me. I like knowing that the cleaning products I use in my home are not going to harm them in any way. I don’t think that many people are aware of how many harmful chemicals are found in household cleaners that are commonly sold in supermarkets here in the US.

The average home today contains more chemicals than are found in a typical chemistry lab at the turn of the century. The Consumer Safety Commission has determined that cleaning products are some of the most dangerous substances in the home. Most states have laws against dumping household chemicals in standard garbage cans. I know that Oregon does! There are special locations that dispose of chemicals. If these cleaners are too dangerous to dump at ordinary garbage disposal areas then why do we use these chemicals in our homes and around our children? Oh, I could go on and on!!

NEW_WOWKit-thmSo, needless to say, the fact that the Black Diamond Wood and Laminate Floor Cleaner is safe for me and my family is very appealing. PLUS, it was easy to use. AND, the mop stayed together and the pad stayed on (unlike other models I’ve tried).

Overall, I’m quite pleased with this product, and I’m actually not dreading cleaning my floors again! I know. Can you believe it? I might even go so far as to say that I’m looking forward to it!

Would you like a chance to win a WOW! Wood Floor Cleaning System? Great! Black Diamond is giving away TWO of these awesome kits to my blog readers!

{Disclosure statement: Black Diamond sent me the Wow! Wood Floor Cleaning System pictured above and asked me to review their product. All of the opinions expressed are my own honest opinions, and none of the content in this post has been furnished by Black Diamond. I appreciate the opportunity to test products by manufacturers, but I promise to always give my blog readers the “real scoop”.}

Edit: About 20 minutes after I wrote this blog post, my oldest came home from school and tracked muddy footprints all over the place. THEN, he dropped his candycane while trying to take the plastic off. Twice. Thus, the sticky mess. THEN, my youngest decided to go out to the garden to pull some carrots for me. MORE muddy shoes.

Guess I’ll be cleaning the floors again tonight after they are in bed! LOL!

Sounds like a great product. I have been looking for a GOOD hardwood floor cleaner that is eco-safe for a while now.

My son (11 years old) told me that since he has eco-friendly floors (bamboo), he needs to use an eco-friendly cleaner. (…and he is right).

The mop looks impressive (can’t believe I’m saying that - lol)
I wrestle with a Sabco mop thingy & the head keeps flipping sideways all the time making the job take twice as long.

This system sure looks like it will perform better than my current system. And I wouldn’t have to get on my hands and knees.

And for the record, girls are just as messy as boys, I think. LOL We also have a dog. Lots of time could be spent cleaning the floors. Note the word, could…I’d rather craft! And so you have the state of my floors. LOL

I am always looking for eco-friendly cleaners. My dh has genetic lung disease and is not suppose to be around any harsh chemicals. This would be perfect for cleaning the hardwood floors in the bedrooms. Thanks for the chance to win and also for the heads-up on this eco-friendly product.

You have no idea how identical our floors look like. Do you have Brazilian Cherry too? My floors are super gross too. While I only have one boy (Grace is pretty clean so I can’t complain there) I do have a dog and a long haired cat. That means I have fluffs of cat hair floating around and muddy dog prints in addition to the amazing amount of food stuck to the floor and general ick. I’ve kind of given up on keeping the floor clean to be honest. It never fails that as soon as I clean it the dog has to go outside to go potty and tracks in mud, or one of the kids will spill an entire cup of juice, you get the picture.

I’m currently using Swiffer. Do you like this better then Swiffer?

I have wood floors too. I love them because they don’t SHOW that they are dirty and always look nice. But my socks don’t lie. I get around to cleaning all 1800 sq. feet of them when our socks get really brown (like your used mops head) from walking on them. I would love to win this product. It looks great!

Horray for clean floors! Let me tell you, girls are just as messy as boys…well, at least mine is! ;-) Of course, she’d help me mop up her mess, if I’d let her. I just know she’ll make an even bigger mess “helping” me clean than she did making the mess to begin with! :)
