Some Freaky Savings

I honestly don’t know how I did this. I’m looking at my receipts trying to figure out what coupons matched up with what products, and I’m all confused, so I won’t even attempt to break it down for you. However, I do have to point out a couple of awesome Safeway deals to you.

First off, as you can see, I am still rolling my Catalina for the Safeway Frozen Food promo: Spend $25 in select frozen food and earn a $10 Catalina (coupon) to spend on your next order. I use that Catalina to pay for another purchase that will earn me another Catalina. Get it? Rolling Catalinas is how Krazy Coupon Ladies get so many groceries for free! This promo ends on Wednesday, so this is going to be one of my last trips.

My Catalina did NOT print this morning, and I know that those Foster Farms bags are included in the promo (even though I didn’t see it on the tag) because it worked for me yesterday. So, I immediately said, “My Catalina didn’t print!” I had the checker give me my total of JUST the frozen food before he rang anything else up (after club card, and before coupons), so he knew I should have earned the Cat. He called out to a passing manager, and she gave me $10 cash at the customer service counter (which will act as my Catalina, in my mind!). If this hadn’t worked, I would have put it all back. You have to be willing to walk away from a deal! (My poor friend Amber had this happen yesterday, and unfortunately her toddler was in no mood to stand at the customer service desk. Sometimes you just have to chalk that one up to a learning experience and try not to get too irritated. She still saved, but she didn’t get a new Cat to roll. Good thing this is the end of the month!)

I did do this in 2 separate transactions to maximize doubler savings (2 transactions=2 doublers=$2.00 off each order).

I’d say that the most exciting things for me are the veggies, which came to 11¢ per can (Safeway coupon+ MC + doubler savings), and the Tower of Tampons. For the tampon deal, they practically PAID me to take the boxes out of the store. Okay, I’m exaggerating, but all 6 boxes cost me a total of $2.94. That means 49¢ a box. For Tampax Pearl, people. They were part of the buy 3, save $3 promo, so they end up being $2.99 a box. I used $2/1 coupons (from a recent Sunday insert and from samples that I sent for), and doubled them (up to .50¢). Sweet!

The Foster Farms is on BOGO! You should see my freezer. We don’t usually eat this stuff, but it sure makes a quick and easy meal. I’m looking forward to trying the Orange Chicken (thus the rice purchase), and now my children can be counted among those who eat chicken nuggets for lunch. Dinosaur shaped, at that. (Don’t get used to it, boys!)

You should have seen what I did yesterday morning!! I was tempted to take a picture, but I went to the store before church and then was in a rush to put the groceries away and jump in the car to make it to church on time.

Rest assured that I picked up the basics yesterday!! Milk, eggs, bread, fruit, veggies (did you see that spinach and carrots are only $1? Woot!). I rocked the trip. AND, I picked up my free Suave deodorant (Dallas is stocked up again, locals!) and tried the Hunts tomatoes, Bush’s Beans, Ground Beef Catalina (signs are next to the tomatoes and beans). It worked! Oh, and grabbed a bunch of free cake mix and free brownie mix. You never know when you will need to throw together a last minute “home made” gift! LOL!

Kelleigh, how awesome is that?! I just have a question… I’m confused about the Tampax deal. How did they end up not being $1 each? I have those coupons in hand right now and want to take advantage of that deal… but I’m lost on the “doubler” thing and how you saved an additional 50 cents on each. I’m new to this. haha

Meagan, here in the Pacific Northwest we get Safeway Double Coupons, which double up to 4 coupons and only up to 50¢ each. They are located on the inside of the first page of the flier. I know that not every Safeway region gets these, though.

    So, buy 3 @ $2.99 each = $8.97
    Use (3) $2/1 coupons= -$6.00
    Use 3 doublers = -$1.50
    Pay $1.47

Do this twice. 6 boxes for $2.94 or .49¢ each!

Oh ok! Thanks for the reply, Kelleigh! I have no idea if my fliers would’ve had those because I’m having trouble getting the papers delivered to my house (grrrrrr).

You should be able to just grab them at the door or the customer service counter. I typically grab a couple every time I walk in the door! And, I visit my Safeway A LOT! LOL!

I really need to start clipping coupons. DH has been making noise about me getting another job…. Saving $500 a month on groceries would most likely mute those “job” mutterings.
