Have you heard of Groupon?
I’ve been hearing a lot about Groupon on the coupon blogs lately. I subscribed so I would get the daily alerts to the great deals in my area, and TODAY I actually purchased my first Groupon!
What is Groupon? It’s a site that gathers excellent deals in your area and offers a massive discount to a select number of people.
Today, I purchased a night at The Benson Hotel in downtown Portland + overnight valet parking + a $35 credit to one of their on-site restaurants or room service for only $124!!
Know what the best part is? Mitch and I spent our first night as a married couple at The Benson!! Isn’t this going to be a great anniversary gift!?! I can GUARANTEE that we (Mitch) spent a heck-of-a-lot more than that 13 years ago.
Side note: So, 13 years ago we arrived at the hotel and I was wearing jeans and a sweater, but my hair was still all done up from the wedding. My rings were sparkly, my face was shining, and I would imagine that Mitch looked a little happy, too. Know what they did? They upgraded us to the Penthouse!!! Wheeeeeee!
I can’t wait to surprise Mitch with this fun anniversary night away! I mean, we get to stay in our honeymoon hotel (well, the first night, anyway) for the cost of a Motel 6. Okay, almost the cost of a Motel 6. Maybe a teeny bit higher, but not much. (Have you checked hotel prices these days? Jeapers!)
I was sorely tempted to purchase a Groupon one other time, and I’m kicking myself that I didn’t do it. Guess what it was for. Lazer Hair Removal. Aw, yeah!!
You can sign up to receive email alerts for Groupons in your area. I’m already signed up for Portland, and I just put myself on the list for Salem, when they start posting Salem deals. They have deals on food: Money Saving Mom orders bread or grain or something like that, and I thought I saw one for Great Harvest Bread the other day. There was a deal on dental services – a cleaning and an x-ray I believe, for WAY, WAY less than my insurance pays my dentist. There are museum deals and restaurant deals . . . all kinds of things!
If you use my referral link, they send me a credit when you purchase your first Groupon! Kinda cool. It’s just another way to pay for my blog!
Have you ever used Groupon?? Am I behind the times?

I’ve only bought one Groupon deal so far and it was the pay $25 for $50 off Gap. I like Gap for the kids and my plan is to use it on clearance items which will make them even cheaper!
Almost bought the one for super cheap canvas prints yesterday. Almost.

I almost did the Gap groupon that Kellie mentioned above – but didn’t. Several of my friends used my referral link to buy it, though. I bought the Arkansas Arts Center membership Groupon on Tuesday…scored my sister’s Christmas gift for free! And I got another one for me…free thanks to my credits…which I can upgrade to a family membership for only $25. LOVE Groupon!
