The Friday Haul - 9/18

18 September 2009 1,424 views 6 Comments

It has been a while since I have shown you my garage sale finds. I admit that I HAVE been garage sale-ing a lot this summer and then haven’t bothered to take the time to post pictures, however I promise to show you those items in their place (when I actually get around to placing them!).

Today, I had some time to kill before heading out to the 20% off sale at my favorite vintage furniture store in Salem. Usually, I clip the garage sale section from my newspaper, but I actually FORGOT {gasp!} that this was garage sale day! I was driving Grant to school and saw a sign. From then on, I was on the hunt. Unfortunately, or maybe not, I spent my entire allotted budget at a single sale. In fact, I went over my budget, and spent SIX dollars {tsk! tsk!} this time!

And, here is what I picked up:

haul

The two lamps were $2 each, and they did come with some stanky shades. I need a few lamps around here, and these are a great scale. I’m definitely going to paint them, but I have to figure out where I’m going to put them first, and that will determine the color. Grant and Cole both need bedside lamps (especially Grant), and I need one for the guest room and one for the nesting tables. I think I’ll be switching things around to see what works best. Should be fun!

All of those little candle holder lantern thingies were 50¢ each, but I picked up the whole lot for $2. There are 2 blue stands, 3 blue lanterns, two green stands and one red stand and lantern. I think I’m going to give the red one to my sister-in-law, since she does a lot of red. (Do you think it would be tacky to give someone a garage sale find as part of their Christmas gift? I suppose I could just give it to her, but it might be nice to get some mileage out of the gift!)

Here is the blue stand with lantern. Love!

And, this is what I’m thinking of doing with the lantern-less green stands:

frame

I picked up the frame (10¢) at that weird frame garage sale where I bought the big honker. I planned to paint it white and put a picture of sweet Katie (my son’s BFF, whom I used to babysit). I promise, the frame is more in scale when seen in person. OR, I do have some tiny frames that I could string up. We’ll see!

And, that was that. One garage sale. $6. Out of moolah, but OH so happy!

What do you think?

I just “might” like garage sales…IF I were to go with you and learn your secrets for finding such awesome stuff. I’m amazed…just amazed with your ability to ferret out the potential in your finds. I wish to goodness my brain worked that way!

And…you’d better hope you don’t get mice with your recent hauls from your couponing adventures. LOL

Great deal, especially the lamps. I need a few lamps too and buying them new is very expensive and often they don’t even include shades.
