This weekend was a BLAST! Our little family went camping again. It was only the second time that we have gone camping with the boys, and we are just enjoying it so much.

We got a bit of a late start. Mitch came home around 5:30pm, then had to pack our stuff in his truck (which he had with him at work all day), and we did the last minute scramble rounding up loose items. This meant that we didn’t leave our house until closer to 6:30. What? On a Friday night? Camping in Oregon? Yer nuts for even attempting to find a spot so late? Yeah. I know. Whatever.

We drove. The boys took snoozers. We headed up the mountains and stopped in at Fisherman’s Bend (where we went last time) and were DENIED. Campsite full. Argh. Still, we decided to waste a good 5 minutes or more driving around the camp, just in case they were wrong. Nope. They were right. The campers were out in force.

We kept going. That place is crowded. Too close to the highway. Bunch of partiers camping there. We looked at the map and debated going OVER the mountains, but I won, so we just went around Detroit Lake. Ahh! Success! We discovered The Cove Campground at Detroit Lake. What a nice place! No electricity, but Mitch just carried our extension cord and the blowup mattress to the bathrooms, filled it up, then endured the chuckles from fellow campers as he carried the honkin’ thing back to our camp. Good man.

Our Camp

Camping was so much fun. It rained a bit, but we stayed fairly dry under the trees. In true Oregonian form, we didn’t bother with rain gear. We cooked over the open fire and let the mist settle on our heads (and curl up our straight hair). We made lists (mental and otherwise) of the items that we need to remember to bring next time. We went for walks down by the lake. The boys rode bikes. We made breakfast. Cleaned up after breakfast. Thought about starting lunch. Made lunch. Cleaned up after lunch. Thought about snack. Made snack. Cleaned up after snack. Then thought about dinner. Made dinner. Cleaned up after dinner. Anyone want smores? (I have decided that camping is really all about moving from meal to meal with small events tucked in the seams.)

Throwing Rocks, of course.

My Delight.

I was there

Evidence that I was there. Sometimes you just have to hand the camera to the 3 yr. old.

On Sunday, we woke up to a little more rain, so after cooking over the fire and cleaning up, we started packing up and went on home. I. was. exhausted and so ready to take a shower. (Yes, the place had showers, but for $1.25 for a 5 minute shower? I don’t think so.) So, after arriving home and taking showers and cleaning up, we went on over to Mitch’s parents’ house to celebrate Father’s Day and my birthday (sorta).

Mitch LOVED the little album I made him. It was a huge hit. He keeps talking about it! Yay! I scored. I also got him a little travel kit with toiletries in it for summer travel events (like camping!), and a DVD set of The Truth Project. He was shocked that I slipped that one in there! Yay for me!

Dinner and dessert with Mitch’s parents was a lot of fun . . . and then I was pooped. We came on home and I finished up my VBS nametags and tucked myself in bed. Ah. Bed.

Man, that was a lot of drivel, wasn’t it?

Okay, where is that tutorial I mentioned in the title? Ah, yes. You can find the little tutorial at The Daily Digi today!
The Daily Digi
I put that tutorial together for my Sassy Purse #3 template that is available as part of their DigiFiles grab bag, which is available until the end of June. After that, I’ll be putting Sassy Purse #3 in my store at regular price.

While you are over there, check out my Spotlight, too! (Man, that was fun to put together!! And, I talk a lot!)

Today is the start of Vacation Bible School at our church. I’m teaching 4th graders. I always love VBS, and I am really looking forward to this week! Of course, it’s a little nuts, too. Lots of things going on. Hopefully I’ll survive!! Pray for me!

I’ll be back tomorrow to sing Happy Birthday to myself. You won’t want to miss it!

How fun!!! When I was a kid, I went on long-term hikes (like for a week) with my dad and the Boy Scouts. He was the scout master. We’d hike in the Sierra Nevada mountains. This brings back so many memories of those hikes. Awesome stuff!

Love that you handed your camera to a 3 year old. He took a great shot!

Okay, can we come live where you live (because it looks GORGEOUS) and then we can go shopping at garage sales together (because you’ve got some mad skills, woman-I never find great deals like that!) and then we can be bestest friends forever? :D

    Okay, cool. ;)
