You may or may not have noticed that I have been pretty much offline for the last week and a half. Let me tell you that this was not an intentional media fast. My big Mac Daddy died. (The computer, people. Not a real person.) I had to strip him down and take him back to the factory defaults, then load everything up again (oh, I’m so not techy!!), but he was still very unhappy with me. He completely died about a week after the thorough cleaning, and I was told that he had “hardware issues” that could cost upwards of $600 to fix.

That was my cue to purchase the lovely lady I’ve been dreaming about. Mitch and I had been talking extensively about how I needed a laptop and a faster computer blah, blah, blah. Thankfully we were prepared for this purchase. Whew! I ended up with a MacBook Pro that is twice as fast and has 3 times as much memory as Mac Daddy. AND, since I purchased it refurbished (with pretty little upgrades already built in) it cost about as much as a PC! But way, way, way better because it’s a MAC! Bwah, ha, ha!

I could go on and on about how difficult it was to wait For.Ev.Er. for the lovely lady to arrive, but that would stir up feelings of anxiety. Let’s just say that the dude who sold me the puter should have suggested that I purchase 2 day shipping. Unfortunately, he convinced me that my Mac would arrive last Wednesday anyway, so I didn’t really need to purchase 2-day shipping. Grr. 9 days later . . . I finally have my computer.

My ancient modem decided that he missed Mac Daddy and wanted to go home to be with him in the gorgeous computer room God has been creating for me in my room in heaven. (Oh, Mitch is going to kill me for typing that. But, don’t you think that God would give me a computer room? Eh?) After countless minutes on the phone with Qwest and various tech support people (okay, probably just a couple of hours total, but it felt like millennia), it was decided that the old modem could not be resurrected and that I would need a new, sleek, and much more compact these days (who knew?!) modem. Which, incidentally, was easy for the dude at Radio Shack to set up, but which left me in tears as I was trying to get my (old) wireless printer to find my lovely lady . . . before I finally asked the dude to help.

But, we don’t need to rehash all of that, do we? Bottom line is this: Gorgeous new computer. Fast modem. (Or fast connection? Or fast computer? Well, anyway, it’s just faster.) Wireless printer is finally working right, so I was able to print out custom labels for my cash envelopes that sold OUT while I was offline (stress to the MAX!!), and thus pop those babies in the mail (whew!).

This kind of reminds me of June 2006. I was 41 weeks pregnant with Cole and people kept asking me when I was going to have that baby. Let’s not forget that I expected him to arrive MUCH earlier since Grant was born at 36 weeks and I had been on modified bed rest since 34 weeks. Expectations for an early delivery were set. Not to be.

On June 14th, my amazing, gorgeous, wonderful baby boy was born!!! FINALLY!

And then, the work began. Have mercy!

Now you know how I’m feeling today. Have mercy! But, I say that with a smile on my face!! Glad to be back!

Oh am I so glad to see you!!! (I got a bit worried until I finally found a post on Facebook telling us your computer died.) Did you take any pics of your cereal, fruit snacks, freezer deals last week at Safeway?! I was so looking forward to some inspirational pics (like your Super Savings Days at Safeway and Albertsons last month!). Now I know the deals are over, but oh I would love to see what you managed to rig up last week :)

I’m glad to hear you are enjoying your new computer and hopefully the printer is working to print off those coupons. (I had trouble for about two weeks with purchasing a new computer and printer and oh did I miss those coupons!)

And don’t worry, my father-in-law tells us he is going to take care of God’s cows and pastures in heaven so I’m sure there will be some place for your computer room!

Hi Mary! I’m getting the same wonky emails. Our whole church is, actually. We even put the right date in, but the days are off on the daily emails. I know that our Associate Pastor has been in communication with B90, but perhaps I’ll send the an email and ask about it, too!!

Hubby and I are in the market for a laptop and I was wondering where you would suggest we start looking? I’m totally new at this and want something decent but inexpensive too. Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your advice,
    Christie
