Okay, I’m not exactly a running machine, but I really, really hope to become a runner. I’ve been wanting to be a runner for a few years now, and I am finally doing it. I actually RAN this morning. Yes, in the morning. In the rain. And, it wasn’t that bad!
So, I guess the question of the day is: If I tell you that I am going to become a runner AND I want to lose at least 10 pounds by April 1st, do I have to follow through?
{sigh}
I suppose I do, huh.
Here we go, people. Hold me accountable!
The goal: Become a runner. (As in, a person who likes to run and actually does it a few times a week or more.)
The Specifics:
- Be able to run at least 2 miles without puking by April 1st.
- Be at least 10 pounds lighter by April 1st. (If I lost 15, I’d be smokin’ hot, and I don’t want to attract too much attention in my bathing suit lounging by the pool, so I’ll stick with 10.)
- Drink more water and less coffee. Need to hydrate, people!
I’m taking it slow, and getting some help and support from a friend (who is a real runner). I hope to run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Maybe try to get a run in on Saturday or Sunday, but I’m not committing to that.
Why am I doing this?
Oh, well, there’s that bathing suit I mentioned. Plus, I want to look like a hotty again. And, I suppose I could say “for my health” but really I just want to fit into my clothing a little bit better. And then there’s that pile of “skinny jeans” sitting on the top shelf of my closet (and yes, they are labeled “skinny jeans”).
Is anyone else working on a fitness goal?
(Yes, it does look suspiciously like a chalk outline. Either that, or I’ve taken “leave” of my senses. Or maybe, this will be all that is left of me after I start my running program. Notice how skinny she is?!)

I am dying laughing about the “chalk outline” photo. Too funny! I want to get back on the Couch to 5K program and need to download the MP3s to help me do that! It’s starting to get a little bit warmer here and I need to do it! I have 30 pounds I want to lose!!!! Got to get on the stick and do it. And I need to add breakfast to my routine. I’m bad about not eating it - my metabolism needs that! Good luck with your running routine!

My friend told me about that program! I think that is kinda what I’m doing. I love the idea!! Oh, and I totally need to start eating breakfast, too! ‘Course, I usually do it just before bed!! (Note to self: stop eating cereal before bedtime!)

you crack me up. I have fitness goals too, but not to run. walking sounds so lame in comparison, but whatever does the trick, right? keep up the good work.

I’ve had to give up walking except on the occasional day with DH when it’s cooler. But once a week me and a friend exercise together
plus i do post natal exercise classes. Lol makes me sound fitter than I am. I’m trying to get back to pre baby weight. I’m now at my previous worst before baby so that’s exciting.
It’s summer here in Aus and in my town (Kalgoorlie) it is HOT (over 100F/40C most days!)

I agree with Gina, the Couch to 5K is excellent. You can download the music from their website for each week. And it is great because he will tell you when to walk and when to run…and in the mean time, the music is inspirational. I wanted to be a runner too. I started last year and lasted through till mid summer when I got sick…and then, I never went back. Maybe you will inspire me to get back out there! I also found that the morning was the best time for me. I had no excuses. At night, I was too tired. I also found running in the morning set my energy for the rest of the day and it was wonderful!
Good luck!! Stick with it and make sure you rest your body and eat protein during hte day to help you keep going!

What a topical post today - I ran this morning too! I am on my way to training for a half marathon in April (my first!). I wish you the best of luck and will be keeping a eye on how your goal is coming along too!! I just started running last year with a goal of doing our local 5K, Race for the Cure, last fall. It was a great incentive because my friend was taking up running too (she did the Couch Potato to 5K plan and it really worked).
Good for you, Keep it up! My weight definately came off, hope yours does too.

Congratulations on getting out there in the rain! It’s always tough; in fact it is 35 and raining here and I am dreading being out there.
but… I always feel better when I came home than when I left. How many things do you do that you can always say that?

WTG! I totally just started running the Couch25K as well…I like the site Dailymile.com great for tracking. I ran my first 5K in 57 minutes…yesterday I did it in 50 so exciting when the time gets faster….look forward to following your progress
