21 Days to a More Disciplined Life - A Review and Giveaway

I’m one of those people who gets easily overwhelmed and then shuts down. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one out there.
For example: My sock basket is filled to overflowing, and yet I can’t seem to do a thing to change that. I look at that sock basket, then turn and walk away. Overwhelmed.
My “office” space is a dumping ground, and my desktop is piled high with stuff. See, I know there are things I will have to deal with if I go through the piles, so it’s better to just leave them all right where they are . . . or maybe move them from room to room. Overwhelmed.
I get overwhelmed and shut down, and then my life gets out of control and pretty soon I’m a basketcase. All because I was too stinkin’ lazy to deal with the socks for 10 minutes or the pile of papers for 10 minutes.
I lack discipline.
When I heard that Money Saving Mom Crystal Paine was releasing a new book called 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life, I just HAD to jump on it. I need discipline, that’s for sure. I get on little “kicks”, but pretty soon the lovin’ feeling goes away. I crave discipline. I must have it to function. Otherwise, I just don’t function.
I’ve read through the first week of Crystal’s book, and man does she get me motivated to get off my hiney and get the job done. In her book, Crystal challenges the reader to complete one Mega Project in the 21 Days, as well as several tiny projects.
My Mega Project is to get my office de-crapified, organized and even decorated. We’re talking PAINT, people. And curtains. I really want to get this done!
In the meantime, the tiny projects that I have completed so far are:
- Organizing the pantry
- Getting rid of the piles of papers on my kitchen counters
- Hanging artwork that has been waiting to be hung
- Conquering the pile of laundry (which still had items from our Disney trip in it!)
I’m completely inspired. Really, I am. Plus, I feel a little more in control of my environment and not so stuck in the overwhelmed rut. I may even take on the socks as my mini project this evening!

I need to use this book to get myself and my house in order for a new baby in January and becoming a stay at home mom/daycare provider in July!

Mega Project: Reduce the items in my house to go from a 2200 square foot two story home with TONS of storage space to a 1300 square foot single level home with minimal storage.

I need to do all of those little things that I wanted to do when we bought this house 3 years ago that are still on my ‘to do’ list. First MEGA project: Patch a few blemishes on the walls and PAINT!!!! These white walls are driving me NUTS! It’s not that I can’t do it, I just lack the motivation! It sounds like I NEED this book!!!! (Pick me! Pick me!)

We downsized to a smaller house 6 months ago and I’m still living out of tubs. I could really use this.

This is just the book I need! My kitchen cabinets were hung in January and they STILL unfinished! I need to get them and the rest of my kitchen painted. Please help me get my hiney off the couch!!

My mega project… Clean out the “computer room” (really the stash-everything-here-room)…including filing papers with a maintainable system, and dealing with/finishing/tossing all the projects that have been stashed there… type the christmas card list, finish the quilt rack, etc.

Ha! Kelleigh - you don’t know how badly I need this book - LOL! I have half done projects that are years old. As we speak I have paint swatches taped to my wall - but no paint purchases.
I’m a great idea person - my follow through needs some help.

My mega project would have to be my craft room/Megyn’s room. I need to clean out my scrapbook hoard:) To make room for a big girl bed.

My mega project would be to get my bedroom organized!!!!

I would so love to decrapify (love that word!) my scrap/craft room. It really could be a beautiful space that I could retreat to and get meaningful projects done. I have a goal to complete a scrapbook for a little princess we fostered for the first 7 months of her life….by Christmas! I just got prints done (240 of them) and am overwhelmed by the thought of my unorganized scraproom and all that needs to be done in order to be a productive space! (i need to purge/donate unused/outdated supplies). I also have paper piles in my kitchen. Would love the assistance of this book to get me motivated!

I say this with shame… I’m still trying to complete my 365 book from 2011! I bought a Groupon for it that expired in January to get me motivated, but sadly the date just came and went!!
There are other projects too, but that one is hanging over me like a little black cloud

Your blog post sounds like you were writing about me and my house. Even small tasks seem daunting. I get very little help from my children or my husband. I need help!

I am like you, BUT how does/can a book motivate you? I have tons of organizational books etc I still can’t “DO”
I have tried the flylady method and a few others and still I have a basement that looks like a scene from the hoarders. Craft supplies divided between two rooms and much of it in totes not being used. Nope I am afraid unless this lady jumps out of the book and takes me by the hand it’s not going to help

My Mega project is to de-crapify my office, as well. I’ve had two children grow up and move out this year, and it has sucked away all the motivation to keep things organized. I need this book!

My mega project is my office!

I have two mega projects that need getting done - one is a complete overhauling of our bodega - a huge storage area which houses about 20 years of bins, boxes, toys, old clothes, etc - dusty and terrible but it’s gotta get done; and the other is a design I need to draw that has been pending for about 3 years - if I can just sit down and DO it, everything else will fall into place - this is the one thing that’s impeding all the other things from happening!
Sorry to go on forever but I think I needed to tell myself in detail what precisely needs to be done so I’ll start getting motivated
Thank you so much for the opportunity!

Oh my gosh, I’m so thrilled!!! Thank you extremely much, I am so excited to get back on track instead of just having all these good intentions! I really appreciate it and can’t wait to get started

Your words struck me because I’ve always thought something must be wrong with me — I, too, shut down and become overwhelmed when my surroundings so to seed. My home office desk right now is overloaded with paper, unopened mail, stacks of jotted notes and just random stuff. I avoid going in there and it frustrates me that I don’t just pick up, file, discard, store and KEEP it that way.

I really want to get our office organized. I feel like to organize it I need money to decorate and that is NOT a priority right now…sssoooo I guess just getting the junk out and dealing with what I have will have to work for now.

I shut down several times daily instead of dealing with the many growing piles that wouldn’t even be there if I had just taken care of thing as it came along. I would love to read this book; although a taskmaster with a mean voice may also be necessary… ;o)

I got distracted and forgot to tell you what my mega project is. Geesh. I still have home-school curriculi, manipulatives, craft stuff galore for preschoolers on up and my two children are 23 and 20 years old.
We haven’t home-schooled them for over 9 years and I meant to sell or donate that stuff 8 years ago at the latest. Ugh. I need to figure out how to handle this.

My mega project will be clearing out my closet (and the pile that is now forming in the bedroom outside the closet). It’s really bad. And I get overwhelmed and shut down too, Kelleigh.

I am purging tons of stuff from my house. So right now it is one room or closet or drawer at a time but it is slow going. I NEED major motivation!!

My mega project will be cleaning my garage. I’ve been putting that off for several months, and it really needs to get done!
