Here in Dallas, we have 2 grocery stores: Safeway and Dallas Market.

Dallas Market shut down a few months ago, and then a new owner swooped in, spruced it up and reopened it. I was hoping to see competitive prices, because it’s always nicer to shop local, right? However, the prices at Dallas Market are not outstanding. I’ve seen a couple of decent deals, but not many. A couple of times I have swung in to grab a quick can of pineapple or cheese and paid through the nose. I suppose it’s the price you pay for not stocking up, right?

Well, I was thrilled last night when I was flipping through the ad and saw that bacon was 2/$5! Wahoo! Yep, the bacon got me again.

And then, I kept reading and saw even more exciting deals!! This is what I ended up with:

The breakdown:

Bacon is 2/$5
Apples @ 79¢/lb
Oranges @ 39¢/lb
Onion @ 59¢/lb
Potatoes @ 99¢/bag
Bread @ $1.59 each

Eggo Waffles were 3/$5 with the in-ad coupon, plus I used the $2/3 MC from the Safeway frozen foods book, which made them $1 each.

Honey Nut Cheerios are $1 each when you buy 5, and I used (2) $1.50/2 IP. When I saw the ad, I went on over to Frugal Living NW to check out their exceedingly awesome coupon database to find a Cheerios coupon, when what should appear at the top of the blog, but THIS POST (which has the coupon). It was meant to be. Ask Mitch. I was giddy! The Honey Nut Cheerios cost me 40¢ a box.

The milk was $2.29 with the in-ad coupon (cheaper than Safeway right now).

The total before coupons was around $36, but I paid just $21.89! AND, I was able to support local commerce, which is just awesome.

I also went to Safeway this morning and did 2 transactions and ended up with this:

I had a raincheck for the Cheerios sale a couple of weeks ago, so I got 4 boxes for 96¢, total.

Otherwise, it’s not too exciting. The Catalina on the Mini Wheats did not print for me, but I’m not gonna freak out about it, because $1 per box of Mini Wheats is decent.
