Dana’s adorable box

I asked Dana to lead us through her process for creating the adorable matchbox she made recently using my new Matchbox Template Set.

Take it away, Dana!

With a template such as the matchbox, which has easy to cut and score straight lines, I like to print it out on scratch paper and then cut my cardstock down to size. Scoring is super easy on a Scor-Pal.

Mark the lines to score with a pencil and then score and cut where the template indicates.

This template is PERFECT for party favors and treats. I am using mine for an upcoming baby shower. I decided to pull inspiration from the changing pad cover the parents-to-be chose at Babies R Us and then made my own digital paper in Microsoft Word. (Kel’s edit: Crazy talented, huh?)

I printed out my sheet of custom designer paper and trimmed and 2.5” x 11” piece from the sheet. The edges were detail lined with the stroke of a brown Writer pen. This band was scored according to the template wrapper in the same way as shown above.

With the band planned out, it was time to assemble the template and add the final touches.

The new parents have chosen a monkey motif for their nursery and the My Cute Stamps monkey from the Circus Animals set was the perfect touch for the top of this matchbox. I also wanted a way to open the matchbox “drawer” in a knob sort of fashion. In comes this perfect vintage button that is bent up on two edges! A button without bent edges would work well too.

I used embroidery floss to stitch the button to the front of the drawer and then tied the floss on the inside and taped the ends for reinforcement. This matchbox slides like a dream!
