The Friday Five: Too Many Chairs?
My Friday Five (read all the way to the bottom to see a Family Room update!):
1 - My husband’s high school class held their 20 year reunion on Friday (bowling) and Saturday (BBQ). We had SUCH a good time! Although we did go to the 10 year reunion, there were many people there whom I hadn’t met, yet. Here’s the thing, though: I get SUPER shy/nervous in situations like that. I get all sick to my stomach. I’m actually quite the introvert, but I force myself to be social. It’s not a natural thing for me, but I refuse to hide in my shell. The gals in his high school class were so gracious and friendly! It truly was so much fun! And, by the way, my husband was told that he hadn’t changed a bit, which cracks him up. Not only has he grown about 6 inches since high school, but his face has matured quite a bit. In short: my man is HOT. I’m so proud of him!
2 - Grant (age eight) is going away to camp this afternoon and will be back on Sunday. He has no idea who else is going, but he is still SO excited to go. I’m very thankful that my child is willing to experience new and potentially scary things. He’s rarely timid (unlike his mama) and willing to be adventurous (like his mama). I’m so excited for him and so proud! I’m a little nervous, too! It’s just a mom thing, I suppose!
3 - We reached the 1/2 way mark of the Bible in 90 Days with Mom’s Toolbox this week! I’m still amazed that each time I read through the Bible, I learn or notice something new! I hope this passion for reading God’s Word continues throughout my life!
4 - I was asked to be the new Bible teacher at my son’s public school! It’s a time release program that has been active for around 30 years (I think). I will pick the kids up from their classroom and escort them to the Bible class building across the street - off campus. I get to teach one second grade and one third grade class. I have NO idea if I’ll be teaching my own son, but I’m sure to know some of the kids. I consider it SUCH a privilege to be able to share the Gospel with kids who might otherwise not ever hear it!! Isn’t that amazing?!
5 - I have been purchasing chairs lately. Lately, as in the last 3 years or so. It all started out with the two I purchased for $1 each at a garage sale. I painted one a freakishly bright “robin’s egg” blue, and it lives in my bedroom. The other is still the same wood color and lives in Cole’s bedroom. THEN, my friend showed me a set of 3 chairs that she found on Craig’s List, and she only wanted one. They were located closer to me, so I went and checked them out. The lady originally wanted an astronomical amount. I want to say $75 per chair, or something like that. CRAZY. I was able to grab all three for $40. Nice! My friend took one of them and I got the other two, including the arm chair. LAST WEEK, I bought another chair for $1. It just needs to be sturdied up, painted and seat recovered. TODAY, I purchased another chair for $2. It is actually for a friend who was looking for a chair for her daughter’s surprise bedroom makeover, but if she doesn’t want it, I’m keeping it!!
So, yeah, I currently have 6 garage sale/Craig’s List chairs residing at my house. Three are in the garage, and three are in use. IN FACT, I actually got one of them out of the garage this week!! I’m so proud!
Here is the before picture of the two Craig’s list chairs (left) and the $1 garage-sale-from-last-week chair:
Cole helped me clean them!
I finished the far left one this week!
I used a grey tinted spray primer and then Krylon spray paint in black satin. Then, since the chair is a bit munched up in places, I sanded some of the black off in places and used a stain pen to stain the wood a dark brown. It looks a little more Pottery Barn-ish now. I unscrewed the seat (before painting), added a thick layer of padding, and recovered it with some gorgeous new Joel Dewberry fabric (Heirloom in Citrine, which I purchased online from Lily Bella Fabrics). Here’s the deal, though. I originally purchased this fabric to cover the arm chair (above), but then I got all excited about actually FINISHING this one, so I went ahead (not thinking) and covered this chair in the sacred fabric. Oops! I don’t know if I will have enough to cover the other chair, so I might have to order more! It’s so lovely, though! I’m currently using it in my new digital work station, which is located right behind the couch.
I took this picture of our family room a couple of weeks ago to share how I turned a buffet that my friend gave me into an entertainment stand. Doesn’t it kind of remind you of the Pottery Barn one I was coveting a while back? I put the sofa table that was serving as the entertainment stand behind the couch, so that is where I am sitting right now (in my pretty new chair) typing up this post! We really love having a little computer table here! I put a basket to the right of the computer to hold junk/clutter/cords that tend to pile wherever I sit.
No, I haven’t painted, but it is coming along! I’ll share more pictures when I get that arm chair finished . . . hopefully this weekend!
So, what do you think about my new chair and the new look in the family room?

She does want it!!!
Thanks again for thinking of me.
It’s the little acts of kindness (like that), that can change the whole world. ♥
*Does this make me famous now?! Being “mentioned” on THE Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s blog? LOL!

I *love* the black and orange look of the chair!!
Also I must say, Thank you for the fabric rose ring! It arrived quite a while ago and I never got around to saying thankyou for the little contest. I wear it out on dates, because it is just to fancy to wear every day. But I feel quite sofisticated when I wear it.
Also, I was buying boxspings today, and the lady behind the counter noticed my “cash envelopes”. She made me take it right out of my wallet to show her. I made mine using one of your free templates. I made it with Close to my Heart paper called “Perfect Day” which is now expired of course. But still. Just thought you should know.

The chairs are terrific! You did a fantastic job giving new life to a beautiful chair! And your buffet re-use is ingenious! I love, love the orange fabric. You are great about giving your resources, and I so appreciate that.
I also want to say I am humbled and grateful to hear there are schools out there that are not squashing our religious freedom, and that you were chosen to lead young folks in such an important endeavor as Bible Study! There is no greater education needed than to hear how God has delivered mankind and to learn that His Word provides a clear path to walk by. I’m positive your students will thrive and you are an answered prayer to this believer! Thank you for your obedience to the Lord’s calling. I can’t wait to hear how God is moving (and He is, rest assured), in your classes.

It was great to meet you at the reunion… and you are as clever and charming in person as on your blog. Laurie
