Grocery Store Savings!

5 November 2010 1,756 views 3 Comments

I know, I know. It has been a long time since I have posted a score. We’ve been doing a lot of eating from the pantry and freezer lately, with non-interesting trips thrown in for produce and dairy. Nothing worth posting about, really. However, I actually have friends who wait to do their shopping until after they see what I picked up. LOL! I’ve been letting you down! No more! Here we go . . .

It’s the first week of the month, so the $10/$50 coupon appeared. OH how I despise that coupon. If I don’t use it, I feel like I might have missed out on a great deal (this is a psychological problem, I know). However if I do use it, it takes SO MUCH careful planning and finger crossing and sweaty armpits and threats of nervous vomiting while at the checkout. I still can’t figure out if it is psychologically worth it to me. Perhaps I need counseling.

I must admit, though, that I did okay.

Some highlights:

  • Cheerios are $1.49 with the in-ad coupon, + I had a $1/1 peelie (which could double) = 4 FREE boxes. By the way, Safeway is having a “cereal extravaganza”. What a joke. Don’t fall for it, ladies. I never pay more than $1 for a box of cereal, but most of the time I pay 50¢ or less. If you stock up at those prices, then you won’t fall prey to Safeway’s “extravaganza”. Sheesh.
  • Mission Tortilla Chips are $1.29 with the in-ad coupon (from Sunday). Yesssss!
  • The 10 lb bag of potatoes are 99¢ with the in-ad coupon (from Sunday). I’ll be making some Loaded Baked Potato Chowder this weekend!
  • The Deli Cuts were $1.77 with the in-ad coupon (from Sunday) + I used a $1/1 Internet Printable (which could double) = I paid 77¢, but you might pay 27¢ if you double it!

Today is the start of the 4-day breakfast sale, which is why I waited to shop until today. You don’t need any coupons to snag:

  • Oscar Mayer Bacon for $1.99 (mmm . . . bacon) - I bought 2!
  • 18 ct. Lucerne eggs for $1.49
  • Dairy Glen Milk for $1.99 (this is the regular price, anyway)

Other deals:

The Driscoll Raspberries are 2/$3, and I had two 50¢/1 IP coupons (which could be doubled). I ended up paying $1 each. I’m a sucker, I know. I just have a craving for fresh (not frozen) berries!

The Sweet Moments have quickly become one of Mitch’s guilty pleasures. They are on sale for $2.50 (yuck!), however I had 2 $1/1 e-coupons that came off, plus I used a $1/1 MC from the paper, so I made a little money! And, yes. Ecoupons are still working for me!

You can see the tops of two Coffeemate Coconut Creamers sticking out back there. (sigh!) We ran out. This is not stock-up-on-creamer time, so try not to repeat what I did. The Coffeemate is $2.99, and I used a $1.50/1 IP that was going to expire on Tuesday anyway, so I paid $1.49. Hey! I was desperate! This is a better price than if you had purchased the Intl. Delights, which is on sale for $2.79 + .55¢ IP (on their website) + doubler. I’m really, really hoping that we get a creamer stock-up sale very soon. Creamer freezes and defrosts very well. You just have to let it defrost all the way and then shake it up before you use it. Perfect results every time!

OH! The sugar! We needed sugar. We ran out of the white stuff last week and the brown stuff last night. We were desperate! I ran to Walmart this morning to pick up rice and beans and flour and bought some sugar while I was there. THEN, I got to Safeway (where sugar is notoriously higher) and it was actually CHEAPER! By a lot! I bought the Safeway store brand, and there is a 50¢/1 store coupon in the new Thanksgiving coupon book (which I found in the baking isle). The brown sugar ended up costing me $1.29 and the white sugar was $2.09. (I returned the Walmart sugar!) If you are desperate, these are good deals. However, I didn’t stock up, that’s for sure! Last year I remember stocking up during the holiday season on baking supplies like sugar and flour. WAIT until the coupon blogs start talking about the great deals before you start buying!

I did pay full price for butter ($2.99) and Tillamook cheese ($5.99). I bought some of the Lucerne block cheese recently, and that stuff just doesn’t slice well. Sometimes it is worth it to pay full price!

Oh, yeah. You noticed the Pillsbury cresent rolls, didn’t you? Well, if you are a Safeway shopper, then perhaps you took advantage of the el-cheapo (or free for me!) Ocean Spray Craisins and Catalina producing slivered almonds last week. Eh? If so, then these two weeks have produced the perfect storm for the creation of one of our family’s favorite comfort foods: The Pampered Chef Turkey (or Chicken) and Cranberry Ring. I can’t seem to find a link for you, so perhaps I’ll cook it up soon and post the recipe on my site!

Anyway, I bought 6 Cresents which were on sale for $2 each, but marked at 50% off that (expires November 20th) and I used 3 $1/2 MCs. I paid $3 and earned a $3 Catalina! So, FREE!

According to my receipt, my total after club card savings was $61.43. I paid $26.40 and earned a $3 Catalina! Woohoo!

Did you find any more great deals this week? Let me know in the comments!

Um, yes, I’m going to need that recipe.
Sounds like a perfect Thanksgiving leftovers dinner! Or before Thanksgiving, whatever. I just bought a turkey today to cook up and freeze :) .

I am so happy your e-coupons are working for you! My cellfire account officially has no more e-coupons and no more Safeway link - boohoo! Plus if I have e-coupons, my manufacture coupons beep and only about half of the cashiers I’ve run in to will push them through. Ah! I was so enjoying stacking my e-coupons, manufacture coupons and doubles! Nice job on your transaction and I do have the SAME EXACT FEELINGS when using/not using that silly $10/$50. Sometimes I even feel like I’m throwing away ten bucks if I don’t use it! Thanks again for posting a shopping trip - I’ve missed seeing them : )
