Mmm . . . Free food!

19 April 2010 1,249 views 2 Comments

I’ve been having fun grabbing non-necessary, yet FREE food lately! I figure, why not? I mean, if they are just giving it away, and they obviously WANT me to have it, I might as well try the stuff, right? For example:

We are pretty much on a no juice diet at our house. Kinda. If I get juice for practically free, then my kids get it. Chances are, I’ll buy them juice during the summer months. However, if I have juice in the house, that is the ONLY thing the boys want to drink, and that drives me nuts. SO, I just don’t buy juice. Unless, of course, it is FREE and will be a lot of fun for birthday parties (if this stuff lasts that long!).

Cole tested it out at lunch today, and gave it the thumbs up. It is yummy, and sugar free, too! It does contain red dye, but my boys are not effected by that. How did I do it? I went to Safeway and followed this scenario outlined by Frugal Living NW.

And then there was the ice cream. Mmmm . . . ice cream. We rarely buy ice cream. We usually only get it when we are having guests or a party. Again, if it is in the house, the kids want to eat it. However, I’m willing for fork over 8¢ for two pints of ice cream. How? Safeway again. I had (2) $2/2 e-coupons loaded onto my card, PLUS a $1/2 internet printable, which could be doubled. So, it went kinda like this:

Buy 2 Starbucks Pints priced at $2.79 each
Use (2) $2/2 ecoupons from Cellfire
Use $1/2 Internet Printable Coupon
Use Safeway Doubler (-.50¢)
Pay .08¢ OOP

I got my IP coupon from Frugal Living NW, and then found the deal in the comments of her weekly Safeway post. Kinda cool. See, it pays to read the comments of your local coupon blog to see what others are doing!

And then, you know about my NEED to have a pantry full of free salsa, right? I use it in quite a few dishes, including Black Bean Enchiladas and Family Sized Baked Burritos. It’s not just for chips in this house!

SO, when I see it for free, I “buy” it! LOL!

This is my current stockpile. Not too bad! I do prefer Mild on my chips, but Medium (the only one my Safeway carries in the larger size) works great in those recipes. The Dallas store is almost out, so I’m gonna cool my jets to let others have the opportunity to take advantage of the deal. Frugal Living NW outlined it for you!

While you are at Safeway, look for those hanging Ronzoni pasta coupons!! My store is out, but Angela (Frugal Living NW) tells me that it is going to be a moneymaker next weekend!!

Have you picked up any free stuff lately? Tell us about it!
