Crazy Healthy Safeway Score!!

10 March 2010 1,745 views 15 Comments

I just got back from Safeway and I am GIDDY.

Seriously giddy.

Look at what I picked up today for only $24.44:

Hey, did you see that?  I said, “ONLY $24.44!!” Oh, AND I earned a $10 Catalina for my next trip!!  Wahoooooooooo!

I’ll kinda break it down for ya:

I took advantage of the Frozen Food month promotion: Spend $25 in specially marked frozen foods and earn a $10 Catalina (coupon that prints out) for your next visit.

I bought:
3 Freschetta Pizzas (yum!)
2 Toaster Strudels (turns out the kids love them!)
2 El Monte Tornados (I have no idea what these things are, and they sure don’t look healthy, but they were practically free and they got me up to $25)
1 Old Orchard Cranberry juice

I used a ton of coupons, none of which could be doubled.  I also had e-coupons loaded onto my card for the Toaster Strudels.  To see some amazing match-ups (with printable coupon links) go check out this post by The Krazy Coupon Lady.  It is awesome.

I also took advantage of this week’s awesome deals on the salad dressing, mushrooms, bagged salads and bagged veggies (Buy 5, Save $5 instantly, which makes them all .99¢ each).  I used lots more coupons, which doubled, making the salad dressing a $1.50 money-maker (three $1/1 coupons, which doubled) and I was able to use the pdf printable $1.50/1 salad coupon (I only used one – didn’t want to push my luck) , so I made money on the salad, too!

And, finally, there is a promotion going with the cereal, too!  I wasn’t going to buy any cereal because the ad just shows sugar cereals, however there are a LOT more cereals included in the promotion.  My Safeway had $1/1 peelie coupons on most of the Kelloggs boxes (which coincides with the Kelloggs sugar cereals Catalina promotion if you are interested), so I ended up paying 50¢ a box for the Rice Krispies and I had a coupon for the Kix (I paid .50¢).  Oh, and you can pick up free Corn Flakes with that coupon!  I would, but I already have about 6 boxes of free Corn Flakes in my pantry . . .

I made a LOT of money by buying the Nut Clusters.  I had no idea.  They are on sale for $1.50 when you buy 4, but I just realized that, so I paid $2.50.  However, I had a $1/1 IP and $4.40 worth of e-coupons loaded onto my card.  I could have bought 4 bags for .60¢, but I missed that one, plus I already have about 10 bags in the pantry, so I’d rather have the overage!!

My total before club card and coupons was $100.60 (this was all in a single transaction).

I paid $24.44 AND earned a $10 Catalina!!

Ahhh, yes.  So much fun!!

    Hey Kelleigh -
I’m just getting into couponing, and still a bit overwhelmed and out-of-the-loop, so I really appreciate you breaking it down for us. Thanks!

Well, just know that you don’t have to figure it all out on your own!! There are SO many great coupon blogs out there to break down the scenarios for you!!

I just LOVE posting my scores, though. It makes me feel like I’m showing others what is possible.

Yay! You should see my Rite Aid post on facebook. It was fun! I am using the men’s fusion razors for me because I don’t have a good razor supply and Steve will be able to shave until the end of time with how many I have for him, but I couldn’t help it! After I get my gift card for the P&G thing, it will have cost like $6.48 for $71 worth of stuff!! I love BOGO weeks and BOGO coupons!

I am going to Safeway on Saturday to get our Fritos (we have to have them for 2 meals and they are Steve’s fave for snacking…I go crazy when they are cheap!) anad then some other good deals with the produce.

    No freezer space left…SO SAD…

You do so great with couponing! if that’s a word..?
do you think it’s worth it to “buy” coupons of sites such as collectablecoupons.com ?

It’s funny you should mention that! I never have, however I think I might start doing that. I was just talking to my husband about it the other day!! I’ve even signed up for an account, just in case. I think that if I really want to stockpile, I need to start buying coupons.

The jealous Canadian is back! LOL. I love your coupon posts and I so wish we had even 1/10th of these coupons.

I went grocery shopping after work tonight and I spent $105.24 and got 24 items (mind you one was a $24.99 dvd and another was a $9.99 pack of 12 batteries) but still it’s expensive…oh, and that does not include any meat. There was a cereal sale but the prices were $1.89, $2.97 & $3.32 on each of the 6 boxes I bought. And that is a really really GOOD price for cereal here. I am going to keep my eyes peeled for sales and do my best that way but girl….you should be thrilled with your scores! Way to go!

Kelleigh, I see your comments on my cousin-in-law Alysun’s website all the time as well as several couponing blogs we both frequent (i.e. frugallivingnw, the krazy coupon lady, etc), so I thought I’d stop by and take a look at your blog. Way to go on you Safeway trip – I so wish we had Safeway doubles here in the Puget Sound!

Kelleigh – great job at Safeway! Our Safeway does not double coupons but I have definately stocked up this past few weeks on frozen foods as well as cereal and fruit snacks. I never think to take pictures of my scores though, I often feel like I have spent enough time getting the coupons together and doing the shopping that posting is just one more thing! I love thefrugalfind.com as well as some I saw you mentioned. Julia – is a local (to me) blogger so it is kinda fun in that respect as well.
