Thanks so much for the quick reply. I hadn't thought about getting them that way. We have (a few miles from us) a transfer station...I'll see if they are easy to get. The recycle area is outside the regular part. I just asked a friend to save hers from her newspaper for me and she agreed. I called the local delivery and they will get back to me. I found out they cost $2 each at Safeway that is local to us. Thanks for the other ideas. I'm still reading so I can figure this out.

Hi - I know this was written a long time ago. I'm going through your couponing posts. My kids are super-duper excited about couponing after seeing the Extreme Couponing on TV. I've slowly purchased the stuff to start and am trying to figure out *where* to start. The first thing is obviously the newspaper. How do you get a good deal on the newspaper?

Thanks.

I like your article.

Regarding viewing something as your personal discretionary money, I think it's a good idea to have some money like that defined for the month. What I do is I have a separate category/envelope for "Food" (which means *groceries only* from the supermarket--if I buy a meal out it comes from my blow money category/envelope) and for things like eating out, coffee cafes, and entertainment (Which I call "Blow $$").

This is because I found that what blew my budget were all the little "fun money" and "lazy spending" everyday expenses. Having $150 for Blow Money in an envelope every month lets me keep a reasonable cap on my social and convenience spending while still "having a life".

I am totally impressed! This is one area I really need to improve upon in our budget. It is hard b/c The Hubs goes to the grocery to "stock up" on items he likes to have for his lunches at work, and he ends up spending on average almost what it would cost out to eat fast food! At least it's healthier...
But I can do better with mixing coupons and sales, and that is the challenge. I do think I'll be moving to cash and giving that a try. It does scare me!
